Aerodynamic Design

Its remarkably low 0.27 drag coefficient places the HS among the most aerodynamic cars in its class. Engineers meticulously examined the movement of air, whether it flowed over the exterior, below the underfloor or through the air passages. Lexus Hybrid System

Equipped with Lexus' first four-cylinder gas engine, the 2.4-liter Atkinson-cycle powerplant generates 187 total system horsepower. The highly efficient Atkinson-cycle engine, made possible by the Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) system, allows the expansion/power stroke to be significantly longer than the compression stroke so that combustion energy can produce engine power more efficiently. Performance is further enhanced by the Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT). Unlike typical automatic transmissions that have a fixed number of gear combinations, the hybrid's ECVT allows for virtually unlimited combinations, maximizing the powertrain's efficiency and allowing the driver to enjoy a smoother acceleration that can't be experienced with conventional transmissions. To make efficient driving easier, a hybrid power meter shows instantaneous eco-driving status, while a green ECO indicator light rewards you when you are driving efficiently.

Exhaust Heat-Recovery System

The Exhaust Heat-Recovery System further enhances fuel efficiency during winter months by enabling a faster engine warm-up time and also helps the car's heater warm up more quickly.

Electric Components
